Nikon D700 digital camera

What happened with the Nikon D3 is now history. Several professionals were taken up by the supreme capacity of the camera to shoot in all kinds of light and switched to it. What is now in store from Nikon is the D700. With the future of photography technology lying in low light and high contrast cameras, this camera is surely going to bring about some sort of a storm by virtue of the configurations that it comes in. let’s see what’s it all about….

There are several features common to the D700 and the D3. For example the high end 12.1 Mp CMOS image sensor which supports the core technology in a D3 also features on D700 as a result of which the trademark superior Nikon image quality is retained. The other common features would be the sensational Expeed high-speed image-processing and the 14-bit A/D conversion unit which are complemented by a 16-bit processing pipeline which facilitates comprehensive and even progression essential for exceptional print reproduction and enlargement. The D3 and the D300 use a high-definition 3in TFT monitor which is also on the D700 which displays the Live View with contrast-detect AF on the camera.

The Nikkor lens celebrates 75 years of its birth. With the huge range of Nikon image processing units in the market, which allow for a control on the Vignette peripheral lighting and chromatic aberration, the Nikkor F mount lens users have just had it easier and better. There are of course a huge range of gears, lenses, speedlights and software too which Nikon churns out every year to support the needs of the younger photographers.

Not only does the D700 offer a super responsive 5f/p/s if used with a usual compact 1500mAh EN-EL3e lithium-ion battery, it can also deliver up to a scintillating 8f/p/s if used with the MB-D10 battery pack which utilizes a potent 2500mAh EN-EL4a battery: but this is optional of course. The D700 also offers i-TTL built-in pop up flash supported by a 24mm lens coverage which allows you to shoot without a big full size Speedlight which is bulky in conditions of discrete photography.

The image sensor used by the D700 offers a definite assurance of durability and sharp images. The D700 boasts of an image sensor cleaning system which uses high frequency vibrations to cleanse the image sensor surface of dust. Thus an ideally balanced DSLR is possible on the D700 even if the photographer is on the move.

The D700 is definitely classifiable as affordable at its maximum retail price. Yet it supports extra features like a DX Crop Mode, a super responsive shutter release time lag of just 40ms and the 51-point MultiCAM3500 AF system. The D700 also displays the Virtual Horizon level indicator when the screen features the Live View mode. Like other FX format cameras the D700 allows you the viewfinder experience which makes for a solid glass pentaprism along with 95% coverage and adjustable AF point LED lighting which would be all you need for the best undisturbed view.

Major features of the Nikon D700

Nikon D700 Digital SLRHigh-speed options:
The D700 goes a step ahead of the D3 with a shutter release time lag of only 40ms. It equals the D3 with a start up time of about .12 second. The unlimited shooting speed is 5 f/p/s with an EN-EL3e Li-ion battery, or about 8f/p/s with a Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 and EN-EL4a Li-ion battery or eight AA batteries. The advanced high-speed card UDMA compact flash cards allowing a 35-Mbyte recording speed is an additional high speed feature on the D700.

A huge 12.1 image sensor:
The D700 consists of a FX-format CMOS image sensor with a sensor area of 36.0mm (h) x 23.9mm (v) which enables the expression of supreme clarity in terms of the intention of the photographer. An incredibly responsive 8f/p/s (with Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10/Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL4a or eight AA batteries) is on offer with options of fast unlimited shooting of 12.1 Mp images enables by a high-speed, 12-channel readout.

A Scene Recognition System:
One of the developed features on the D700 is the new 1,005-pixel RGB sensor which lets information from the sensor to set for auto exposure figures along with auto white balance and autofocus. There is a 3D-Tracking in AF which is enabled by the Scene Recognition System. This helps in tracking subject color position and automatically adjusts the AF points which move to catch up with the object’s movement in the frame. The same System creates greater precision in terms of auto exposure and auto white balance.

A broad sensitivity range:
The D700 allows for a broad spectrum of sensitivity which extends up to a ISO200 to 6400 at normal setting with silencing of uninvited noise all over this range of sensitivity. Sensitivity is further adjustable to a high HI 2 (ISO25, 600 equivalent), or low to Lo 1 (ISO100 equivalent), to broaden the horizons of your shooting capacity.

A Picture Control System:
The D700 carries the same Picture Control System which makes Nikon shooting so easy and possible for even a starter. There are a few basic setting parameters which allow one to customize the image on one of the four modes, Standard, Vivid, Monochrome or Neutral: this in turn helps controlling the image parameters of saturation, sharpening, brightness, and tone compensation.

Electronic Virtual Horizon:
The tilt of the camera is noted by using a sensor using which the camera features the Virtual Horizon on the screen.

Greater resilience:
The Nikon D700 has a magnesium alloy cover and the same for the mirror box and the back of the camera. Dust and moisture have no entry into the O-ring sealed connections. The Nikon shutter apparatus is made of a compound of carbon fiber and Kelver.

The Expeed image processing:
This is of course a patent Nikon offer. The Expeed digital image-processing makes all the difference in your image and found on Nikon cameras.

An Image Sensor cleaning option:
The dust layers on the image sensor are cleaned up by high frequency vibrations; at four different frequencies too. The feature is automatically turned on with the camera being turned on and turned off when the camera is turned off. The optical low pass filter in front of the image sensors are thus screened from dust deposition.

An Active D-Lighting:
Active D-Lighting yet again, is a feature on the D700 which allows for customized conditions of shooting. It enables the photographer to control intensities at Auto, High, Normal, Low or Unchanged before the picture is taken. The usual compensation technique would be expanding dynamic range. But with this feature you have localized tone control technology to garner appropriate contrast and get rid of flat images which miss out on highlights and shadows.

Opt between two Live View modes:   Nikon D700 Camera
Live View lets you shoot while you can observe the object on the LCD monitor. While shooting in the Handheld mode you would obviously want to recast the frame before shooting. This is possible due to the activation of the ordinary TTL phase-detection AF which puts all 51 AF points inclusive of 15 cross-type points. With the Tripod mode you achieve more accuracy in focus with subjects in consideration being still. In this mode you could make use of the focal-plane contrast-detect AF on a preferred point inside a realm. Apart from theses controls you could make avail of Remote view, focusing and shooting control from a PC (USB or WT-4).

HDMI output (High-Definition TV) compatibility:
The Nikon D700 is compatible with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) Ver. 1.3a for the exchange of global-standard video and audio tracks. A Type C mini connector is available with the D700.

An AF system tagged with a high-density 51-point AF:
The D700 uses a Multi-CAM 3500FX auto focus sensor module featuring 51 AF points!! Could you believe that?! 15 cross-type central sensors help subject recognition with lens apertures minimized to f/5.6. if operating on the Dynamic-area AF mode, the options would be to choose from 9, 21 or 51 AF areas.

A High-definition, 3in VGA, TFT LCD monitor allowing a wide viewing angle:
The ultrahigh-definition [920,000-dot VGA (640 x 480)], 3in LCD monitor including a tempered glass allows a 170° viewing angle. The big monitor is incredibly easy to handle and is especially efficient when it comes to post photographic focusing. The wide viewing angle lets recomposing of the frame in Handheld mode with Live View be an incredibly flexible affair.

The Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 (option):
You can use a Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10, which puts to use EL4a/4/3e rechargeable Li-ion battery or power equivalent of 8 AA-size batteries. This is optional and carries additional shutter-release button, AF-ON button, multi selector, and main- and sub-command dials. This is what allows you to embark on high-speed unlimited shooting of 12.1Mp images at 8f/p/s on your D700.

Exclusive Wireless Transmitter WT-4 (option):
The D700 has a WT-4 which is compatible with both wired LAN (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX) and wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b/g, 11a), and uses a thumbnail mode for convenience. A PC will grant a wireless connection of up to five cameras, a series of thumbnail images and downloads too. There is of course the Camera Control Pro 2 option and the Live View function which allows for wireless remote view/control shooting of images.
