Canon EOS Rebel T2 SLR Film Camera

With the advent of the DSLR, you might not expect a camera company to make much of an investment in a 35mm film camera. But the Canon EOS Rebel T2 packs enough features and innovation to make you think twice. The EOS T2 is Canon’s latest foray into the film world, replacing the Ti, and rightly solidifies Canon’s reputation as the best in the business.

The T2 offers a host of features that improve usability. Just holding the handsome, lightweight polycarbonate body proves that the camera is comfortable and so friendly on your shoulder that you might just forget that you’re carrying it. The rubberized grip is reliable, and the clever ergonomics make it easy to access all the necessary features with one hand. You can even check your settings in the dark on the new back-lit LCD screen. Five pre-programmed Image Zones automatically set the camera to capture beautiful shots in different settings, from portraits to landscapes, close-ups to sports. “Creative Modes” allow the user to adjust the camera’s priorities – aperture or shutter speed – or give the user complete control over all settings.

With seven auto-focusing points, the T2 ensures razor sharp images even when your subject is off-center. This seven-point auto-focusing system works in tandem with the 35 metering zones read by the EOS Rebel T2, which means that the camera will help you make sense of confusing lighting situations or frustrating backlit compositions. And if you choose to select your own points of focus, the Cross-Key AF Point selector makes it easy to compose artistic shots with the focal point of your choice.

Some of the basic mistakes that every photographer makes are compensated for by the Rebel T2. If there is no film in the camera or no lens attached, the T2 will lock the shutter thanks to the Safety-Shutter Release Lock. And you’ll never lose an important moment to a shutter speed setting that is too slow thanks to the Camera Shake Warning – that frustrating guessing game is over.

Another brilliant feature on the T2 is the ETTL-2 flash system, which is smart enough to provide dead-on accurate flash exposure in a variety of settings, from light to dark and even highly reflective subjects. This flash metering system automatically analyzes your composition to adjust for differences in distance and provide true-to-life, even illumination. If you’re getting too far for the full effect of the flash, the T2 will warn you with its Flash Readiness feature. Other great features include a built-in auto-exposure bracketing, which secures images at several different settings simultaneously, a depth-of-field preview to help you filter out unwanted distractions, and a multiple exposure mode.

Speed is not lacking in the Rebel T2 either. It boasts a 3 frame per second drive mode, up to 1/4000th of a second shutter capacity, and up to 1/125th X-Sync for “fill flash,” which is especially useful for taking vivid, flattering portraits. Add an EX flash and that sync can go all the way up to 1/4000th of a second.

The Canon EOS Rebel T2 is a great film camera that could easily be mistaken for the equipment of a professional – until you see the price tag. At about $250, this camera offers something for everyone and plenty of room to grow from novice to veteran photographer.
